shooting a 5-year-old girl. >> karen parks is live at the mime courthouse with the latest on the story. what can you tell us at this hour. >> jeff, lamont davis was here this morning for the arraignment. the attorney said the video you are about to see will prove that his client is innocent. >> lamont davis, 17-year-old accused of shooting 5-year-old raven wyatt last month in the 300 block of south pulaski highway pled not guilty. charged with first-degree murder, assault and handgun charges. his attorney released this video of the crime scene today. he says it shows a man walking along pulaski highway. opening fire. and you see the crowd of people hoovering over a young child. but hedge path said the video shows a shooter not wearing a gps unit, that davis was supposedly wearing that day. this is what the gps unit looks like. it is in two pieces. one part worn, the other monitors movement. defense claims the shooter in the video has ankle sox on and

not a tracking device. here is another twist to the story. shooting happened july 2, but as late as july 16 the department of juvenile services claims davis cutoff his bracelet. a statement from the department of juvenile justice said it was 15 minutes after he cutoff his bracelet that our workers were out looking for him. but police sources confirm that davis still had on the ang let when brought in for questioning. >> so there were a lot of elements and pieces to this story that are not connecting. >> davis' attorney said this video tells all. >> the trial date is set for october 2. reporting live in downtown portland. karen parks fox 45 news. >> yes or no? >> the dee the bait rages on. from one townhall meeting to another. >> people against health care reform take on lawmakers in townhall meetings. but are they having any effect?

>> tonight we take a close look at the power of the protest. >> health care reform and the debate simply will not go away. protestors demonstrated in belair this evening. even though the congressman was out of the country. keith daniels is live in belair with more on the story tonight keith, how was it out there? >> jeff, it was a show. i can tell you that live outside of congressman kratovil's local office. quiet wet night tonight. and earlier today, it was dry and loud. with picketers protesting to make a point. >> in the small town of belair. at the corner of main street and church field road. >> this is america. >> there is a townhall meeting without townhall. >> i have a petition behind me. >> at least 100 people, many of them with local conservative groups, including the belair tea party coalition, speaking out against health care reform that is working the way through congress. >> the federal government cannot

supporters include congressman john sar danes but he moved the discussions from the seemingly more confrontational townhall meetings to more sedate telephone conferences. live in belair, keith daniels, fox 45 news at 10:00. >> all right, keith. one of the people criticizing protestors is backing off her comments today. nancy pelosi and majority leader hoyer called people protesting the meetings unamerican. elijah cummings also echoed on the same sentiments and this is what pelosi said earlier. >> democracy in action, we disagree, we have our lively debate, respect each other's views and agree we don't agree and then move on. >> however the white house has distanced itself from pelosi's comments. >> well, washington county police are making some changes before senator cardin's townhall meeting in hagerstown tomorrow. townhall meeting in towson last night, cardin was boo'd and jeered through the meeting.

heckleed and jeered during an hour and a half town meeting devoteed to health care reform. >> i want to make sure everybody understands where we are today. >> that's why we need reform. >> how can you, and democrats, support the costly irresponsible national health care insurance. >> the doctor vats, first to ask the question at the meeting. said the meeting may have served a valuable purpose. >> i think it may have served as a release valve. because a lot of people that went there were upset. i thought he answered a lot of the questions directly. i think, that it shows a certain courage on his part. >> i don't think i was surprised by the noise level. >> cardin predicts the meeting will have an impact. >> a lot of people got a chance to ask questions. i got a chance to respond. and more information got out there. that's what a townhall meeting purpose is. >> cardin expects to confront more protestors on wednesday. when he holds another townhall

meeting in hagerstown. jeff abell, fox 45 news at 10:00. >> well, the senator staff said 800 people have indicated they want to attend tomorrow's meeting. but there are only 350 available seats. that brings us to the question of the day. do you think the townhall meetings are effective. so far it is an even split. 50/50. elizabeth from belair writes. they show how uncivil many of my fellow americans are. many of the outraged need to take an anger management class. but charles from dundalk writes, if you mean for obama care, then i would say they are effective. if you mean for the opponents, then yes. more responses on the "late edition" at 11:00. >> president obama hits the road to sell his plan. encountering friendly crowds. but one senator did not. >> president obama begins a series of health care town halls. today focusing on preventing insurance companies from denying coverage because of preexisting conditions. >> your health insurance should be there for you when it counts.

>> i am going to speak my behind and people opposed to the option are voicing dissatisfaction, and their suspicion. >> mr. obama meantime has two town halls set for friday in montana and colorado. >> one of the arguments for reform is to control costs. here is an example of just how high those costs are, and why. it is the case of a techniques tec woman named debbie frazier. spending two days in the hospital recently to have a battery replaced in her defibrillator. the bill is $196,000. now that can be broken down to four parts. the cost of the care itself. overhead costs. and operating margin, that helps pay for new equipment. and subsidy costs. where the patients that have health insurance help to pay for those that don't. >> it is a significant part of the bill. you will never see it written in the bill. but it is sure there. it is a hidden surcharge. >> well, the american hospital association said the money is also used to train doctors.

able to cool them down. now recovering at a rescue shelter waiting for adoption. >> how much more of this hot weather will we have to endure? >> chief meteorologist vytas reid is here with a look at the sky watch forecast. vytas? >> a break from the heat. 90-degree temperatures will go bye-bye for a bit. and see the temperatures in the mid to upper 80s in the next couple of days here. looking at some showers and thunderstorms erupting earlier today. not really making it into baltimore city. but points around the area. around the county to, harford county and bay. lingering showers west of salisbury. lightning flashes going on there. continue to see the shower activity push east. line of showers and thunderstorms making the way through harrisburg pennsylvania. we could get a few flashes of lightning later tonight. but most of the activity is starting to lose strength as it moves towards the maryland line. back northwest of that. breaks in the clouds. it looks like things will quiet down. i know we did have a meteor shower scheduled for tonight. you may not be able to see it

. >> his line of work for years. still traveling home security salesmen are making money. coning residents into thinking they are legit. >> you don't have to tell a stranger at the door anything. except goodbye. >> in baltimore county, joy lepola, fox 45 news at 10:00. >> police suspect there are more victims that have yet to come forward. >> maryland man that already has four d.u.i. convictions now faces another d.u.i. charge in delaware. 33-year-old christopher kendle of chesapeake city pulled over in claymont delaware monday morning. a delaware state trooper clocked him at 102 in a 60 zone. preliminary test showed kendle's blood alcohol level at 2.6. faces charges for under the influence, aggressive driving and speeding.

invested $40 million to refurbish the vacant building. and less than a year later the entertainment complex failed. so at the request of baltimore city officials the cordish company decided to give it another try. cordish convinced disney to open the nation's first espn zone. a short time later the hard rock cafe opened. and for 11 years it has been home to the cordish company's corporate headquarters. but now the cordish company is focused on the next big venture. a slot machine casino at ronnel millions mall. >> create thousands of jobs, and they are good jobs, high paying jobs. >> slots will generate $400 million a year for the state. and he knows his company still needs the blessing of a state commission, and zoning approval from the anne arundel council, vote put off time and time again. >> i am not upset, we are winning them over. working with them. and we believe we will have

>> good evening folks. looking at a steamy day out there again. and temperatures it were a few degrees cooler compared to where we were in the mid to upper 90s. seeing temperatures in the lower 90s today. taking a look from the hd skycam. few flashes of lightning across the bay and north of us in harrisburg. but baltimore city proper not a lot of activity downtown. we got to see showers and thunderstorms east, west, north, south of us but it looks like a lot of the activity kind of fizzled out by the time it got to the center city. so looking at 78. in for rain moving through downtown. but it might not make it. may be more northern baltimore county. harford and carroll county. winds calm. humidity levels at 71 percent. pressure 29.86 and falling. looking at the almanac. high of 89. below 90. and we should be at 86 for this time of year.

prescription a quarter of an inch at bwi thurgood marshall airport. and inner harbour, you know this is zero. nothing downtown. as we saw threatening clouds around us. but it looks like we are going to continue to see the chance for showers and thunderstorms off-and-on for the next couple of days. temperatures across the region. 83 degrees in new york. 74 harrisburg. 70 in pittsburg. slightly cooler northwest up around the great lakes. behind the frontal boundary bringing in a little cooler air. but not a big change. but we will see a break from the oppressive heat. which is good news. through the next several days. pop up showers and thunderstorms moving along the frontal boundary. but kind of, there is the remaining line, up there toward harrisburg. that will move down across the northeastern portion of the state. maybe cecil, harford county getting rumbles of thunder in the next hour or so. and closer look, we can see the showers and thunderstorms that stay north. but the temperatures right now 82 in baltimore. 83 in d.c. 75 in hagerstown. slightly cooler off to the west. mountains, out in oakland, nice and cool at 61. and there is the remaining

showers, it looks like, thick clouds out there. we had the meteor shower tonight. best time to see it between anywhere 9:00 to 11:00. you might be able to catch some stuff maybe. may be the best chance before sunrise. full moon out there. but it looks like -- or moonlight is not full but may block it. but the clouds would block it unfortunately for this time of night. looking at the showers and thunderstorms possible tomorrow morning. breaking up. and then tomorrow afternoon better chance for the showers and thunderstorms to fire up. it will be kind of off-and-on daily routine of chances for showers and thunderstorms here and there. and late afternoon, maybe 30 percent chance off-and-on for the next several days. so keep the umbrellas nearby. looking at the eastern shore forecast. 86 degrees with a chance for showers and thunderstorms. and your forecast for the central portion of the state. looking at 88 degrees. northerly wind at five. and with a chance for spotty showers and thunderstorms later. and your five-day forecast shows off-and-on spotty showers, 35 percent for the next several
